I wanted to say thanks to all that have served our country. May we always remember the price that has and is being paid for us to enjoy the freedoms in this great Nation. Please take the time to remember this 4th of July all of our young soldiers that are away from their families. And pass on to our children and grandchildren the traditions that we are so proud of.

1980-83 Aco 1/75 Weapons platoon, AT section under SGT Mike Hall, SGT Randall ("Andy") Anderson, SGT Dale Kennedy, CPL Craig Riley (last known as MAJ Riley with Group). Anyone ever hear from Mike Davis, Roland Crawford, David Bazmore, or Tony Lewis? Doc Carmode must have headed back to NYC. I have great memories of Ronnie Carle, may he rest in peace. And every memorial day, I raise a glass to toast Marlin Maynard, my assistant gunner who died in Grenada. When I left in May of 83, I went to Berlin (huge mistake) - but at least there I met and served with George Partridge and Marc Leinbach, both formerly of Bco 1/75. In mortars we had Doug Droesch, Michael Gonzales, Paul Tiegland and Juan Espinosa. Last time I saw Doug, he was a 1SG with HHC 1/75 - that was at the Ranger Reunion at Benning in 1999. Any updates on any of these Rangers, please email me. And to Eric Stahl, you still got my yearbook! At least Nibbles let me look at his. RLTW!!!

Operation Just Cause - Ranger Rendezvous - Panama

Operation Just Cause Anniversary Trip - October 14th - 20th To all Operation Just Cause Rangers, this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Ranger lead invasion. This October 14th - 20th return to Panama without rucks or weapons where we will visit the beautiful and modern day Panama as well as some of the battle sites we fought upon 20 years ago.

Below is a tentative trip itinerary, the dates are set, but any reference to cost or prices right now are not. Airfares to Panama are reasonable right now, and accommodations in country are inexpensive. Travel insurance is recommended.

Just Cause Reunion Itinerary includes-
1. Visiting Noriega's old mansion, Rio Hato, Punta Patilla (now a shopping mall)
2. El Valle de Anton, the crater of an extinct volcano
3. Boquete, the most beautiful place in Panama
4. And of course visit the Panama canal itself, (the locks and museum)
Optional side trips include:
  • Casco Viejo, the site of "old Panama" after Henry Morgan sacked the city in 1671.
  • The "original" site of Panama city, PRE 1671 is called "Panama Viejo" and is mostly ruins.
  • The canal zone - several old buildings and such to see.
  • La Comandancia and Modelo prison sites - now a park of sorts, not much to see, but we can drive by it so you can say you visited the site where some of our brothers died.
  • Amador causeway - beautiful vistas of Panama city, good restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

In reference to our BDQ Ranger brothers and U.S. Ranger Advisors that served with the RSVN Biet Dong Quan-Sat!  Congratulations on the recognition of your dedicated service and expert Ranger abilities.  Our Rangers and theirs were dedicated to the man, tested under the harshest combat conditions that South East Asia had to offer.  All fully prepared to fight to the death. The BDQ were the last RSVN Warriors to lay down their arms.  And then only through a direct order from their Biet Dong Quan-Sat Ranger General did they lay down their arms.  Understanding the Evils of capture by Communists forces many BDQ Rangers chose to fight to the death rather than capture.  A few living off the land E&E'd with famlies in tow through Communist held territory and on to freedom.  Airborne!!  BDQ!  RLTW!!!

I'm looking for anybody I might have served with during "the day". I also have one bottle of rum that we liberated from Castro's boys, [i.e. Operation Urgent Fury], this bottle has been kept safe for all these years, anyone has any ideas as to how best deal with situation? I was thinking a few of the boys that were there should use in a toast [or 2+], but I don't think of this bottle as mine, it really belongs to all of us who were there, so, any of you that took part in the liberation of this Cuban rum, please, let's think of way to use it to honor the ones who paid the highest price for it. I'd like to request it be posted on the website, and placed into our quarterly Patrolling, that there is a new book out about Rangers and Ranger Training.
The book is entitled "Mountain Ranger" written by Ross Hall.
This book is about the history of the US Army Mountain Ranger Camp at Dahlonega, Ga, and for many of our members who served there, I thought they would be interested in getting a copy.
This book is based on interviews of former cadre going all the way back to 1952 which is the year that the Mountain Phase of Training began in and around the Dahlonega area.
To order a book, our members can do one of two things:
They can contact the author direct (Ross Hall) at his email address which is: pageone@windstream.net
They can also order a book directly from him by mail. Send a check or money order for $18.00 (includes P&H) to:

Greetings..Just stumbled upon your site doing a search for a buddy..Found him but I was wondering why under your Viet Nam units that you did not include the 11th ACR LRRPS? I know they Operated as both Aero Rifle Platoon and LRRP's when I was in Viet Nam. Was it because they were not picked up during the transition? I knew some guys that went over there (Volunteered) and they all had to attend the Recondo School. Just wondering. I am sure it is not important but while I was there they worked those guys to death.
Anyway no big deal.Great site. Good info.

Operation Just Cause - Ranger Rendezvous - Panama

December 20, 2009 will mark the 20th Anniversary of America's Invasion of Panama in a successful bid to over throw Dictator General Manuel Noriega. The U.S. Army Rangers were an integral part of the invasion and spearheaded the war with combat parachute assaults on multiple airfields. Rangers, I Patrick "Mac" McElrath (formerly of C Co 2/75) am putting together a group trip for any Just Cause Rangers who would like to go back for 1 week in December to tour Panama, visit some of the spots we traded lead with PDF, and reminisce about the invasion.

What I am asking of you is that if you think you would be interested in joining us for this trip please contact me at mac(replace this)rangermac.com and let me know as soon as possible. No commitment is necessary yet, I'm simply trying to gauge the level of interest from the Just Cause vets for a trip like this. If the response is great enough I'll start recruiting for the trip, organizing tours, airfares, and billeting.

I hope to hear back from many of you soon.

Live the Creed,
Patrick "Mac" McElrath

I seek assistance in compiling a bio on SFC Frank C. Lincoln (deceased) to submit to the USMRA (Mountain Ranger Association) for them to use in providing Lincoln a memorial. Lincoln was my 2d PLT SGT in Nam in '70- '71, tremendously admired and respected by me and the men in my PLT as well as the entire Co C (Ranger), 75th Inf (Airborne). Lincoln was the one I trusted to prepare Macguire Rigs and rope extractions, having been an expert with ropes/knots that he probably mastered while an instructor with the Mountain Ranger Camp. Lincoln was also the only person I know who performed actual sniper missions for our company in Nam. I know Lincoln was an instructor at the mountain phase in June of 1969 since he was the instructor of SSG Tony Foster, TL of Team 22 in Nam, when Tony went through Ranger School. I also remember that Lincoln wore the 101st patch on his right arm when I knew & loved him in Nam. Please email me if you have any information I can use to honor Lincoln.

Currently have 113 active members on our Contact List and to this date, 530 names listed on Document Called: Rangers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade 1965-1971 Still working on list of LRS -74th Inf. Det. Airborne Long Range Surveillance. Contact me to be added to Master List of those who served. NOTE: There has been some discussions about the Yellow Ranger Tab: Here is my input: Ranger Tab is for completing a very hard advance military school. Those who have graduated should be proud of that.
For those who were not able to attend the school due to our low Rank, we earn our LRRP/LPR/RGR Scroll in real day-to-day fire-fight combat missions with blood of our friends and enemies on our hands. Vietnam Rangers, not allowed to wear the Ranger School Tab as the WWII and Korean Rangers were giving for being in combat. On the outside world, you do-not- need a college degree to be succesfull. Just my thoughts and others who who have commented.

Hello Rangers: Jan and I would first like to say Happy New Year for 2009. If you haven't received the word, we are back in our retirement home in Wellsville, New York. I'm now working for the Veterans Administration at Bath VA Hospital, ER/ICU, and Jan is working in the local (Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville) in the O.R. Coming this December, it will be 20 years since Operation Just Cause. Hard to believe that it's been that long, and how fast it went by. The US Mountain Ranger Association will be holding it's annual "Critter Cookout" in April at Camp Merrill, in Dahonega, GA., and the US Army Ranger Association will be conducting it's annual "Ranger Muster" (sponsored by the Western Region of that organization) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sept 7-11. The 75th Ranger Regiment Association is holding the "Ranger Rendevous" at Columbus, GA, 2- 8 August. There are lots of Ranger events this year, and many opportunities to make at least one of them for most of us, depending on where we live. OK Rangers, take care, good luck, and if your deployed, stay safe!! Joe Mattison
